ミラクルミュージカル (Pronounced: MI-RA-KU-RU MYU-JI-KA-RU) or, as translated into English, Miracle Musical, is a music project, spearheaded by Joe Hawley. 3 other members of Tally Hall and various other collaborators, including Bora Karaca, contributed to the project's debut release: Hawaii: Part II. Though listed as "World" music on iTunes,[1]

The biography that appears on both their Bandcamp and Kickstarter pages reads:

"ホログラムを通じて表現される無限大のジャンル – "Genre of infinity, which is expressed through hologram"[2][3]

History

Hawaii: Part II was the first album to come out of the ミラクルミュージカル project. Hawaii: Part II, was released digitally at 12:12 on December 12, 2012 (12/12/12). It was met with acclaim from fans, some calling it their "favourite album of all time"[4]

An album based on the original, Hawaii: Part II: Part ii was released digitally on May 19th, 2014. The album contained demos, alternate versions and instrumentals of tracks from Hawaii: Part II[5]

On August 23rd, 2014, ミラクルミュージカル teased the date "12/13/14" via their Twitter.

On December 12th, 2014, ミラクルミュージカル released an animated music video for Isle Unto Thyself.[6] The next day, December 13th, 2014, (12/13/14), an animated music video for the song Labyrinth was also uploaded to Youtube [7]. Labyrinth was also promoted with a PC based video game which went by the same name, made by Wonderfling Studios. A day later on December 14th, 2014, an an audio-only cover of Candle On The Water was uploaded to their official YouTube page[8] and Soundcloud.[9] The track was dedicated to the memory of Diem Brown and Trevelyn Grace Campbell, fans of Tally Hall.

On June 4th, 2015, ミラクルミュージカル uploaded a lyric video of The Mind Electric to YouTube.[10] Two dates later, on June 6th 2015, ミラクルミュージカル uploaded a video of what appears to be Ross Federman recording the drums to Black Rainbows onto their official facebook page saying " HAPPY 6.9.15「A.K.A. "BLACK RAINBOWS" SING-ALONG DAY」"[11]

On September 13th, 2015, an update was made to the Labyrinth video game, allowing for users to play the game on Mac OS X[12] As of 5th Dec, 2018, the game has been taken off the wonderfling website[13]

On December 31st, 2015, ミラクルミュージカル released "Hawaii Partii" on Bandcamp, an album of nine 8-bit renditions of songs from Hawaii: Part II, which were also used as the soundtrack to the Wonderfling Labyrinth video game[14]

On October 17th and October 22, 2024, the Miracle Musical (Topic) YouTube channel would be part of another hack. The person behind it would release poorly made AI music and a repost of the Cojum Dip instrumental of Inside The Mind of Simon. Currently only two tracks have been made and will most likely be removed sometime in the near future. [15][16]

Future Work

When asked in a February 2018 interview, Joe would state there probably won't be more music from ミラクルミュージカル, and that further musical ideas for ミラクルミュージカル would be used for future Tally Hall work.[17]

On December 13th 2018, Joe Hawley, Ross Federman and Bora Karaca hosted an "Ask Me Anything" thread on reddit.com, to commemorate and celebrate 6 years since Hawaii: Part II's release.[18] Within the thread the three pioneers of the ミラクルミュージカル project answered a myriad of questions related to ミラクルミュージカル, and all of their respective works.

When asked if there would be more music from 'Miracle Musical', Joe Hawley answered: "There won't be a Hawaii: Part I or Hawaii: Part III or whatever, so please stop asking, but we might further explore the themes of ミラクルミュージカル in some form"[19] Following up by answering a similar question with: "There will not be another "Hawaii: Part" anything for ミラクルミュージカル"[20]

On July 12th, 2019 a 7-inch vinyl pressing of Variations On A Cloud was released for pre-order through Ann Arbor Tees, as a bundle with an embroidered cotton hat.[21]

Live Performances

To date, there has only been one live performance by ミラクルミュージカル, which was sometime in 2014, at Sean Donnelly's private "Seanaroo" Victorian mansion party in Echo Park[22]
