anonyMous was a comedy troupe that Joe Hawley founded in the fall of 2002 while attending the University of Michigan.[1] Rob Cantor was also a member, as well as Ryan Scott, Rick Lax, and a few others.

The troupe created a sketch comedy film titled Sargasm, directed by Joe Hawley and released in the spring of 2003.[2] The film was shown at the Michigan Theater and was described by Joe as like "‘Saturday Night Live,’ only funny."[3] Their most popular skit by far was Break It Down, a song that would become popular with Tally Hall fans and later became popular audio on TikTok. The track was later rewritten by Tally Hall for live shows in 2006.

After the completion of Sargasm in 2003, anonyMous would disband and Joe Hawley would join Tally Hall with Rob.[1]

Facets of Sargasm would leak into other Tally Hall skits, including the character of Joerilla[1] and the "What You Don't Know" skits.

Trivia

  • Despite being directed by Joe Hawley, much of the film was a team effort. Rick Lax created the Robotron Cornbobber skit.[2]
