Andrew Horowitz

edu, pronounced ee-doo, is the first solo/side project of Andrew Horowitz since Tally Hall's hiatus in 2011.

Andrew explains the name of his solo project in his bio:

"my family calls me edu (ee-doo). from my understanding, edu is how i pronounced andrew as an infant. my music, like my nickname, is intimate. and so, gather close and welcome."[1]

History

edu was first introduced to by the public on the 17th of October, 2011, through his Facebook page.[2]

His first set of demos was initially released on cassette tape so as to not have it be circulated in a disposable format; the first batch was mailed out in March 2012. On December 17th 2012, Andrew decided to make the whole album available digitally through his Bandcamp page, however, as of 2019, the original version of Sketches is 'Sold Out' and no longer available for purchase.[3]

Sketches 3d

In 2019, edu announced a re-release for his debut album, on both vinyl and streaming services. The project was funded through the crowd-funding website Kickstarter, similarly to how Joe Hawley Joe Hawley was financed. The album has been changed slightly, with what edu describes as a removal of "some of the junk that was clogging it up," and saying that "a lot of sonic problems were addressed".[4] This increase in quality is presumably a result of Andrew's music producing career in between the two releases.

Sketches 3d was released to Bandcamp and streaming services on July 22nd, 2019.[1]

2nd Album

In 2012 Andrew did an interview with Hidden In The Sand in which he spoke about a second album: "i’m working on my second release. the tone will be darker, more baroque. i have no timeline at the moment, and like “sketches” it’ll be done when it’s done. i hope to do some focused touring if the right opportunity comes along.[5]

On August 12th 2012, edu released Tomorrow and Today via the Italian music blog OndaRock, which, because it was not on sketches, was speculated to release on a second album.[5] However, in 2019, the track would be remastered and released as a kickstarter exclusive bonus track on Sketches 3d.

Since 2019 Andrew has been performing unreleased original material that has been speculated to appear on a sophomore release. These songs include: Worlds In My Head, Fishes, Monsters, Good Morning, Mr. Butterfly, and Someone Will Be There.

Fans who have met Andrew claim that the second album will be made in collaboration with Illicit Ghost and will come out later in 2024.[6][7]
